After a busy Virtual EFM Berlin market, 101 Films, an Amcomri Entertainment Inc, has announced a series of the all-rights acquisition of a significant slate of movies for release in the UK in 2021, into 2022.
The headline title is Jeepers Creepers: Reborn (2021), a re-boot of one of the 21st Century’s most iconic horror creatures. The move is brought to the screen by a brand-new team including producers Michael Ohoven (Devil’s Rejects/Capote /The Cave) and Jake Seal (Grand Isle / Willy’s Wonderland), writer Sean-Michael Argo and director Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky: Coming Race). It is scheduled for a Q4 theatrical and VOD/physical release.
Synopsis: Forced to travel with her boyfriend, Laine begins to experience premonitions associated with the urban myth of The Creeper. Laine believes that something supernatural has been summoned – and that she is at the centre of it all.
The Legitimate Wiseguy (2022) is a pre-production acquisition (subject to contract) starring Ruby Rose (John Wick 2 / SAS: Red Notice / Batwoman), Emile Hirsch (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood / Comeback Trail) and Harvey Keitel (The Irishman / Mean Streets) and is scheduled for a summer 2022 release.
Synopsis: It’s the early 1980s and young Nicki sets out to become a famous actor. His dear Uncle Tony, one of the most feared enforcers ever to come out of Chicago, plans to help him. Using his uncle’s connections, Nicki begins a journey that takes him from Chicago to Vegas, Hollywood to Hawaii, and back again as he lives the glitzy Hollywood lifestyle.
Dr Bird’s Advice For Sad Poets (2020) is a comedy drama starring Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series), Tom Wilkinson (Grand Budapest Hotel / Michael Clayton), Taylor Russell (Waves) and Lucas Jade Zuman (To The Stars / Sinister 2). It is scheduled for a June 2021 VOD release.
Synopsis: In the emotionally charged, wild and humorous world of sixteen-year-old James Whitman, we see his struggle to overcome anxiety and depression by seeking advice from Dr. Bird – an imaginary pigeon therapist – in the wake of his sister’s disappearance.
Also due for a June 2021 release is Senior Moment (2021), a comedy starring movie legends William Shatner (Star Trek), Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Jean Smart (Watchmen).
Synopsis: Victor Martin (Shatner) is a retired NASA test pilot often seen speeding around Palm Springs in his vintage Porsche convertible with his best friend Sal (Lloyd) in tow. His life changes when his license is revoked for drag racing and his car impounded. Forced to take public transportation for the first time, he meets his polar opposite Caroline (Smart) and learns to navigate love and life again as he goes up against the state’s new DA to get back his license and car.
June 2021 will also bring the VOD release of Hero Mode (2021), a teen/young adult comedy starring Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite), Sean Astin (LOTR), Nelson Franklin (Veep) and Mary-Lynn Rajskub (24).
Synopsis: A teenage coding genius has just 30 days to create the world’s greatest video game, or his family loses everything. No pressure!
Ghoster (2021) is a family adventure from prolific production company Ace Entertainment. It will be released Q1 2022.
Synopsis: Elizabeth and her father can’t believe their luck to have inherited Echoville Manor, a sprawling, thirty-seven room estate. Upon arriving, Elizabeth discovers that the mansion is inhabited by Ghoster, the world’s cutest spirit who has been trapped in a mirrored prison for fifty years. Together, they must uncover the secrets to Echoville to free Ghoster before the nefarious Yuto captures her soul in his quest for immortality.
And finally from EFM Berlin, 101 Films has acquired Wired Shut (2021), an elevated home-invasion thriller starring Natalie Sharp (DC’s The Flash). It will be released Q3 2021 in the UK & North America.
Synopsis: A disillusioned famous novelist, unable to talk while recovering in his remote mountain home from major reconstructive jaw surgery, is exposed to a life-threatening secret when he receives an unexpected visit from his estranged daughter.
