Amcomri Entertainment Inc, Abacus Media Rights (AMR), has acquired worldwide distribution rights (excluding UK) for Vox Picture’s 90-minute feature length drama “The Trick”which will be delivering from October 2021 and was recently announced as being commissioned by BBC One.
Pre-sales have already been secured by AMR to PBS (USA) and NENT Group (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, The Netherlands, Poland, and the Baltic countries). “The Trick“, starring Jason Watkins (Line of Duty, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies) and Victoria Hamilton (Doctor Foster, Life), tells the story of world-renowned, respected scientist Professor Philip Jones (Watkins), the Director of Climate Research at the University of East Anglia, who found himself at the eye of an international media storm and the victim of cyber terrorism in 2009.
This powerful film embraces a highly creative production team which includes Adrian Bate (Eternal Beauty, Keeping Faith) as producer for Vox Pictures, executive producer Ben Irving (Silent Witness, His Dark Materials) for the BBC, and Bafta-award winning director Pip Broughton (Keeping Faith, Aberfan: The Green Hollow). Commissioned by Piers Wenger, Director of BBC Drama and Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer, BBC,” The Trick”is written by Bafta-nominated Owen Sheers (The Snow Spider, Aberfan: The Green Hollow).
The ensemble cast of “The Trick”also includes George MacKay (1917, Pride), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones, Ripper Street), Adrian Edmondson (The Pact, Save Me), Aneirin Hughes (Hinterland, Keeping Faith), Pooky Quesnel (The A Word, The Victim), Richard Elfyn (The Pact), Rhashan Stone (Keeping Faith, Finding Alice), Justin Salinger (Hanna), Tara Divina (Line of Duty) and David Calder (Time, The Hatton Garden Job).
With time running out against an unseen enemy, “The Trick”looks at the potentially devastating consequences to humanity from climate change denial; how a media storm undermined public confidence in the science and how the concept of ‘truth’ took a back seat causing us to lose a decade of action. The film charts the unjustified persecution of Phil Jones, his wife Ruth’s (Hamilton) fierce support of her husband and the fight for the ultimate exoneration of himself and the science.
Jonathan Ford, Managing Director at AMR comments, “We are extremely pleased to have acquired this exceptional new thriller and to have already secured pre-sales with significant international broadcasters. We believe it will have strong appeal to many of our other clients around the globe“
