Abacus Media Rights (AMR), an Amcomri Entertainment company, announces sales of Butchers of the Bayou a 4 x 60’ uncompromising documentary mini-series set in America’s Deep South, to Prime Video for UK and Ireland. In addition, A&E has licensed the series for the rest of the world.
Produced by Peninsula Television for A&E Network and Prime Video and directed by David Harvey (Bloodline Detectives, Green Eyed Killers), Butchers of the Bayou is executive produced by Elaine Frontain Bryant, Michael Gelman, and Peter Tarshis for A&E, along with Jonathan Ford for AMR and Ronan Hand for Peninsula. The hard-hitting series has been produced using exclusive interviews and archive materials provided by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Zachary Police Department and the 19th Judicial District Court of Louisiana, amongst many other sources.
Jonathan Ford, Managing Director at AMR, comments, “Butchers of the Bayou is a riveting and disturbing real crime series that is almost too unbelievable to be true. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to sell this documentary to two big platforms, ensuring it will have as wide an audience as possible.”
Two serial killers operating separately from each other terrorise Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and its surrounding area over the span of a decade.
Federal investigations into the unsolved murder cases of women in Baton Rouge were going nowhere because the Baton Rouge area Multi-Agency Task Force simply had so many cases on their hands. From 1991 to 2001 there were 53 unsolved murders of women in the area, many coming from different backgrounds and ethnicities and involving different causes of death. Any attempt to sift through potential suspects led them astray because, not only were they focusing on a wrong profile, they did not consider they were dealing with more than one serial killer at the time…
Peninsula is rapidly becoming an international force in the production of binge worthy true-crime mini-series’ and Butchers of the Bayou is the first in a number of mini-series co-productions which Peninsula will be releasing over the next few months in collaboration with AMR.
