Abacus Media Rights (AMR), an Amcomri Entertainment company, acquires global distribution rights for BriteSpark Films’ Elon Musk: Superhero or Supervillain?
This unique one-hour documentary airing on 16th May, commissioned by Channel 4, utilises rare archive footage about Elon Musk, the on/off richest man in the world, Time’s Person of the Year 2021, a flamboyant entrepreneur and billionaire, whose Tweets can move stock markets and spark buying and selling frenzies.
In his most recent move, the board of Twitter have agreed to a $44bn (£34.5bn) takeover offer from Musk. The divisive celebrity is permanently in the headlines alongside his multiple controversial and eye-catching businesses, PR stunts and florid personal life. But beneath all the razzmatazz, there’s a company that has genuinely spearheaded the move from fossil fuel to electric in the car industry – Tesla – and SpaceX, which has transformed space travel.
Jonathan Ford, Managing Director at AMR comments, “We’re particularly pleased to have acquired this fascinating documentary which takes a long, hard look at Elon Musk, one of the most influential men on our planet. His ability to dictate the future is staggering as is his reach, which extends over a multitude of tech applications in every corner of the world. Love him or hate him, his actions affect every one of us every day.”
Produced with premium documentary production values using an experienced DoP and minimal commentary, the film asks fundamental and serious questions about the South African-born entrepreneur’s public façade and his businesses – where there are also allegations of heavy-handed behaviour and racism towards staff. Are believers following a man who’ll lead us into a new technological post-fossil-fuel age of space travel and AI, or a false prophet selling snake oil?
Directed and Produced by Richard Sanders, and Executive Produced by Tom Porter and Nick Godwin.
